"Bite Your Teeth" is a song by Poppy from her third studio album I Disagree. It is the eighth track on the album.

Theme[]

"Bite Your Teeth" is inspired by a quote from British writer Alan Watts: "Trying to define yourself is like trying to bite your own teeth".[1]

Lyrics[]

[Intro]
Bite your own teeth, bite your own teeth
Don't cry, just bite your own
Bite your own teeth, bite your own teeth
Don't cry, just bite your own

[Verse]
Don't cry, keep on trying
Don't cry, keep on trying to bite
Don't cry, keep on trying
Don't cry, keep on trying to bite

[Chorus]
Bite your own teeth, bite your own teeth
Don't ever, ever cry, just bite your own
Bite your own teeth, bite your own teeth
Don't ever, ever cry, just bite your own
Bite your own teeth, bite your own teeth
Don't cry, just bite your own
Bite your own teeth, bite your own teeth
Don't cry, just bite your own

[Verse]
Don't cry, keep on trying
Don't cry, keep on trying to bite
Don't cry, keep on trying
Don't cry, keep on trying to

[Bridge]
Creeps are creeping
Teeth are sinking
Into my teeth

Trivia[]

  • This is the sixth Poppy song to have been performed live before its official release. It was first performed at October 14th, 2019 at Theater of the Clouds.
  • This is the shortest song on I Disagree, being 2:42 long.
  • Poppy has confirmed that "Bite Your Teeth" and "Nothing I Need" were the last songs written for I Disagree.[1][2]
  • On 2015, Poppy posted a picture of Alan Watts' phrase on her Tumblr account. This could point out that Poppy had already the idea but hadn't materialized it until years later.
  • The YouTube audio was originally titled "Bite My Teeth" instead of "Bite Your Teeth", as this was how it appeared as a YouTube notification. The title would be later changed to "Bite Your Teeth" and later, on February 2020 to "Poppy - Bite Your Teeth".
  • An apple chomping sound effect can be heard before the song's bridge.
    • During some live performances of this song, Poppy would chomp an apple directly into the microphone and then throw it into the audience before the song's bridge instead of putting a sound effect.
