"Chewing Gum" is a song by Poppy.
The song was accidentally uploaded to Poppy's SoundCloud on May 17th, 2016 for around 30 minutes before getting deleted. Some managed to download it after the song was deleted; however, the ending was slightly cut off. Shortly after, an unofficial, edited version with a fixed ending was uploaded onto SoundCloud.
"Chewing Gum" is about Poppy meeting a boy on the internet. She supposedly falls in love with him as he continually gives her attention. Due to this, Poppy doesn't want him to ever leave her. As the relationship progresses, she continues to cling on to the idea of him never leaving her. She compares the boy to chewing gum; if he leaves her and/or makes her hate him, she'll "spit him out", this being a metaphor for cutting him out of her life.
Fans speculate that "Chewing Gum" could be a reference to Mars Argo's video "Everybody Wants It All" because Mars is chewing what appears to be gum and is having a Skype call with a friend she met on the internet.
- During the ending of the song, one can hear Chris Greatti shouting "There's a fire!". It is unknown if this was intended to be in the song.
- Poppy posted the song's lyrics onto her now-deleted Tumblr blog (thatpoppy) in January of 2016.
- Some fans speculate that the song's accidental release was done on purpose as a publicity stunt, likely due to the length of the song being up.
- Poppy made an edit to the Genius song bio of "Chewing Gum", stating "It was originally posted on SoundCloud".
