"Choke" is a song by Poppy. It served as the third single and title track from her second extended play "Choke" and is the first track on the EP. It premiered exclusively on BBC Radio 1's Rock Show on June 16th, 2019, and was later released worldwide on June 19th, 2019.
"Choke" was officially announced in an interview with BUILD Series, with Poppy stating that it would be accompanied by a "visual". The song was released alongside an audio video in which Poppy sings the lyrics while standing motionless in front of a dark backdrop, which is the same backdrop that appears in her 2019 YouTube videos. Throughout the video, she gradually turns yellow. Various digital images appear during the song's final chorus, with the video ending on the triangular Poppy logo.
"It's along the lines of explaining that life can be suffocating, but tuning into higher frequencies can help to come to an understanding of that suffocation. There are angels and demons inside all of us and the song is an attempt at understanding that." - Poppy in an interview with Gigwise
- This is the longest song on "Choke", being 4:02 long.
