"Nothing I Need" is a song by Poppy from her third studio album I Disagree. It is the sixth track on the album.

Background

On November 26th, 2019, Poppy revealed the title along with the tracklist to I Disagree on Instagram.

Theme

"It's a more straightforward arrangement-wise, kind of like a deep breath. It's about everything I thought I wanted is actually nothing that I need [and] coming to terms with a lot of things. Maybe certain things that I was drawn to [or] attracted to, and I realized that what I need I already have at the bare minimum, and happiness is way more important than material objects." - Poppy in an interview with Alternative Press[1]

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Something strange happened to me
All I ever wanted, it was nothing I need
Doesn't matter to me
It don't matter to me
When I said that I'm okay
All the power that you had, it just slipped away
Doesn't matter to me
It don't matter to me

[Chorus]
Take the ride
Take the ride, take the ride
Take the ride, take the ride
Take the ride, oh-woah-woah-woah

[Verse 2]
Always gotta climb the ladder
Someone else will always do it, they'll do it better
Here's your prize for competition
They would die for your position
Everything I thought I wanted
I can see it's nothing, nothing I need
I'm not gonna ask permission
I'll never ask permission

[Chorus]
Take the ride
Take the ride, take the ride
Take the ride, take the ride
Take the ride, oh-woah-woah-woah
