"Say Cheese" is a song by Poppy from her fourth extended play Eat (NXT Soundtrack). It is the second track on the EP.

Background[]

On April 8th, 2021, Poppy performed the song at the WWE event NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver. On April 21st, 2021, it was announced that it would become the new official theme for WWE NXT[1][2] from April 20th, 2021 until September 7th, 2021. On June 8th, 2021, Poppy released the studio version of "Say Cheese" as part of her Eat (NXT Soundtrack) EP.

Theme[]

The song is about Poppy, either figuratively or literally, being under attack by someone or something and wanting it to end, losing all malice she originally had towards them. She reminds herself repeatedly that she should not be upset about the person's attack as they were never friends, and she accepts her fate, urging her attacker to smile and finish her off.

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
Hands behind my back
I'm under attack
I will not react
I won't give you that
I'm up to my neck
Lost all self-respect
I don't want revenge
Just want it to end

[Chorus]
Show me your teeth
Look at me, look at me
Everything's going perfectly
So say cheese

[Verse 2]
Push me to the edge
Make me hang my head
I can't leave my bed
Without ill intent
Fictions I've been fed
Fill me up with dread
I am not your friend
I am not your friend

[Chorus]
Show me your teeth
Look at me, look at me
Everything's going perfectly
So say cheese

[Bridge]
Subete daijoubu
Sumairu onegaishimasu
Nakanaide
Say cheese
Move

[Outro]
Show me your teeth
Come on, look at me
Show me how to be happy
